Problems for the popular file transfer service WeTransfer, its staff discovered that some file transfer emails were sent to the wrong people.
WeTransfer, the popular file transfer service, issued a security notice to inform users that file transfer emails were sent to unintended email addresses on June 16 and 17.
In response to the incident, the company logged out of some users from their account and forced them to reset their password. The company also blocked the unintentional transfer links.
“This incident took place on June 16th and 17th, and upon discovery, we immediately took precautionary security measures to protect our users.” reads the notice published by the company. “This means that users might have been logged out of their account or asked to reset their password in order to safeguard their account. Additionally, we have blocked Transfer links to ensure the security of our users’ Transfers.”
The company sent an email to the impacted users that states:
“We have learned that a transfer you sent or received was also delivered to some people it was not meant to go to. Our records show that those files have been accessed, but almost certainly by the intended recipient. Nevertheless, as a precaution we blocked the link to prevent further downloads,”
Anyway, the company urges affected individuals to monitor their account for any “suspicious or unusual emails.”
At the time, the company did not disclose technical details about the problem, it is not clear if the systems of the file transfer service have been hacked in some way.
