Orange, France’s largest telecom provider, reported a cyberattack on one of its internal systems, impacting its operations in Europe and Africa.

Orange is a leading French multinational telecommunications operator providing services to individuals, businesses, and governments across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Formerly known as France Télécom until rebranding in 2013, the company now serves over 290 million customers in 26 countries, offering mobile telecom, fixed‑line, broadband internet, IPTV, digital services, and enterprise solutions via Orange Business.

The company is also backed by the French government, which retains around 23% ownership, ensuring strong strategic alignment with national digital infrastructure priorities

On Friday, July 25, Orange, a major telecom provider in Europe and Africa, reported a cyberattack on an internal system.

Orange, with help from Orange Cyberdefense, quickly isolated affected systems after a cyberattack, causing service disruptions for some corporate and consumer clients in France. The company revealed that recovery efforts are underway, with key services expected to gradually resume by Wednesday, July 30.

“Immediately alerted, with the support of Orange Cyberdefense, the teams fully mobilized to isolate the potentially affected services and limit the impacts.” reads the statement published by the company.

“However, these isolation operations have resulted in the disruption of certain services and management platforms for some of our corporate customers and some consumer services, primarily in France. Our dedicated teams are fully mobilized to inform and support affected customers. 

Our teams have identified and are implementing solutions that will allow, under heightened vigilance, the gradual reopening of the main impacted services by Wednesday morning, July 30.”

Orange filed a complaint, and authorities are investigating the security incident. The company pointed out that there is no evidence that threat actors have stolen customer or company data.

“At this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest that any customer or Orange data has been extracted. We remain vigilant in this regard,” continues the statement.

Orange hasn’t named those behind the cyberattack, but the incident resembles global telecom breaches tied to the China-linked Salt Typhoon APT group.
