A cyberattack on gambling giant IGT disrupted its systems, forcing the company to take certain services offline.

International Game Technology (IGT) detected a cyberattack on November 17, the company promptly started its incident response procedures.

International Game Technology PLC (IGT), formerly Gtech S.p.A. and Lottomatica S.p.A., is a multinational gambling company that produces slot machines and other gambling technology.

In response to the incident, IGT took some of the impacted systems offline to contain the threat.

On November 17, 2024, International Game Technology PLC (the “Company”) became aware that an unauthorized third party gained access to certain of its systems, and the Company has experienced disruptions in portions of its internal information technology systems and applications resulting from this cybersecurity incident.” reads the FORM 6-K filed with SEC. “Promptly after detecting the issue, the Company activated its cybersecurity incident response plan and launched an investigation with the support of its external advisors to assess and remediate the unauthorized activity. The Company has also proactively taken certain systems offline to help protect them. The Company’s ongoing investigation and response include efforts to bring its systems back online.”

International Game Technology has yet to determine the full impact of the cyberattack but is communicating with stakeholders and implementing business continuity plans to mitigate disruptions.

The company hasn’t shared details about the attack, however the response to the incident suggests that it has been the victim of a ransomware attack.
