Threat actors breached the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa in Pennsylvania and took control of a booster station.
During the weekend, Iranian threat actors hacked the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa (MWAA) and took control of one of their booster stations.
The Authority pointed out that the attack did not impact the operations at the facility, the water supply, and the drinking water.
The Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa (MWAA) is a public utility that provides water service to the residents and businesses of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. The MWAA operates and maintains a network of water mains, pipes, and treatment facilities to ensure that its customers have access to clean, safe, and reliable water.
Matthew Mottes, the chairman of the board of directors for the MWAA, confirmed to KDKA-TV attributed the attack to the Iranian hacker group Cyber Av3ngers.
Mottes revealed that the attack was immediately detected. The impacted station monitors and regulates pressure for Raccoon and Potter Townships.
Pennsylvania State Police is currently investigating the attack on the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa.
The Pro-Palestine group targeted a system produced by Unitronics, which is “software or has components that are Israeli-owned.”
The image published by KDKA-TV suggests that threat actors took over a Unitronics Vision system.
On its Telegram channel, Cyber Av3ngers announced that it had targeted several SCADA systems at Israel water facilities. The group added that “every Equipment ” Made In Israel ” Is Cyber Av3ngers Legal Target!”
The good news is that none of the claimed attacks has caused serious damage to the targeted facilities.
