Systems at the action sports company Boardriders was hit by a ransomware attack, the incident also impacted some of its subsidiaries, including QuikSilver and Billabong. In response to the infection, the company shut down its systems worldwide.

Boardriders is currently present in over 110 countries, its subsidiaries are Quiksilver, Billabong, ROXY, RVCA, DC Shoes, and Element.

Immediately after the attack, the e-commerce websites of the company displayed messages offering customers 20% off promotions and informing its customers of shipping delays.

“Boardriders got hit with a computer systems attack that led to slower shipments in several parts of the world.” reads the website shop-eat-surf.com. “The attack happened about two weeks ago, and required the company to shut down its systems and move to back up technical structures.”

According to a statement from the company, it has been working to restore ordinary operations.

“Recently, Boardriders Inc. was exposed to an increasingly common computer virus that impacted some of our systems in some regions. Our IT teams have been working to quickly restore our systems to support our operations, which are now largely transacting and shipping normally.” reads a statement from Boardriders.

“We are proud of how our teams have responded to this challenge, and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work. We also greatly appreciate our customers’ and vendors’ patience and support during this brief interruption.”

The company did not provide details of the attack or on the family of malware that infected its systems, but BleepingComputer, citing sources informed about the incident, reported that the company was hit by a ransomware attack that likely took place during the last week of October 2019.
