Japan’s top brewer Asahi suspends operations after a cyberattack, halting ordering, shipping, and customer service activities.

Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd (commonly called Asahi) is Japan’s largest brewing company, known for producing top-selling beers like Asahi Super Dry, as well as soft drinks and other beverages. It operates both domestically and internationally, with a strong presence in Europe and Asia.

“Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. is currently experiencing a system failure caused by a cyberattack, affecting operations in Japan.” reads the notice published by the company.

“At this time, there has been no confirmed leakage of personal information or customer data to external parties. However, due to the system failure, the following operations have been suspended:

  • Order and shipment operations at group companies in Japan
  • Call center operations, including customer service desks”

The company suspended its operations at the Japanese branch after a cyber attack, other branches were not impacted. The attack halted the company’s ordering and shipping operations, and its call center and customer service desk are unavailable.

The company has yet to disclose a data breach, however, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The company states that there is currently no estimated timeline for recovery.

At this time, no ransomware gangs have claimed the attack publicly.
