Airbus Hit by Series of Cyber Attacks on Suppliers: Security Sources

The European multinational aerospace corporation Airbus has been hit by a series of attacks, hackers targeted its suppliers to steal Intellectual property.

The European aerospace giant Airbus has been hit by a series of supply chain attacks, threat actors hit its suppliers in the attempt to steal secret technical documents.

The news was reported by security sources to the AFP agency, the experts suspected that the attacks were carried out by China-linked hackers.

The experts reported that Airbus suppliers were hit by at least four major attack in the last 12 months.

“There have been four major attacks on Airbus in the last 12 months, according to two security sources involved in investigating the hacking.” reads the report.

“The group has long been considered a tempting target because of the cutting-edge technologies that have made it one of the world’s biggest commercial plane manufacturers, as well as a strategic military supplier.”

Early 2019, the European airplane manufacturer Airbus announced to have suffered a data breach, hackers broke into the company “Commercial Aircraft business” information systems and gained access to some of its employees’ personal information.

According to the AFP, people with knowledge of the attacks speculate that the intrusions are part of a bigger operation carried out over the last year.

Threat actors targeted British engine-maker Rolls-Royce and the French technology consultancy and supplier Expleo. The AFP also reported that at least other two French Airbus contractors were hit by cyber attacks.

Supply chain attacks are very dangerous, hackers often attempt to hit their targets by compromising the systems of their suppliers.
