Popular Hacker Adrian Lamo, known for the case Chelsea Manning, is dead

The popular Hacker Adrian Lamo died at 37 age, the coroner confirmed his death, but the circumstances of his passing are still unknown.

The popular hacker Adrian Lamo has died at 37, he is known for hacking a number of companies, including The New York Times in 2002., and turning the whistleblower Chelsea Manning into the FBI.

Adrian Lamo revealed that Bradley Manning provided secret documentation to WikiLeaks, he declared to have acted out of a sense of “duty,” but later expressed some regret for the decision.

His father Mario Lamo-Jiménez announced the death in a Facebook post:

“With great sadness and a broken heart I have to let know all of Adrian’s friends and acquaintances that he is dead. A bright mind and compassionate soul is gone, he was my beloved son…”  he posted

The coroner for Sedgwick County, where Lamo lived, confirmed the death of the young hacker but at the time it still unknown the cause.

Media outlets pointed out reportedly Adrian was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in July 2010 when he spent a short period at the hospital.

Media dubbed Adrian Lamo the “homeless hacker” because once when he was unemployed he wandered the US by Greyhound bus and hacked business from the street

Adrian Lamo

In the imaginary, his life embodies the story of the romantic hacker that works alone to discover flaws in the systems of the tech giants.  He spent almost six months on home detention, he also studied journalism before becoming a threat analyst.

Chelsea Manning found him by reading his profile in Wired magazine, then he contacted him revealing his role of informant for WikiLeaks.

Many of view remind the controversial combat video footage (“Collateral Murder – Wikileaks – Iraq”) showing an Apache helicopter in 2007 shooting unarmed Iraqi civilians.

Manning also passed more than 260,000 classified diplomatic cables to Wikileaks. Adrian Lamo reported him and informed the US military of the security breach.

Manning was arrested in May 2010 and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the data leak. In January 2017, President Barack Obama took a historic decision, he commuted Chelsea Manning’s sentence for leaking classified documents to Wikileaks in 2010.

His release took place on May 17, 2017.

RIP Adrian Lamo.
